SNUFF JAR JUMBLE - GRANDPA’S GLASS PHOTOGRAPHY SERIES (Part 9)
Welcome back to Part 9 of the Grandpa’s Glass Series.
In case you are new here, I am sharing some stories behind the photos of my Grandpa’s Glass series. If you missed any of those posts, they are linked below. But, today, I want to share the memory of snuff jars and how “recycling” those jars became a part of Grandpa’s story.
The Jars
Snuff is a smokeless tobacco that has a long history in the Southern United States and Grandpa enjoyed his snuff. It never occurred to me to be interested in the contents because I was fixated on the jars.
We all had drinking glassware from the empty jars - recycling/up-cycling before it was in vogue. The clear glass made the best milk or juice glasses for all of the grandchildren. They were a perfect size for small hands, and less content to spill was an added bonus I am sure. But, he also had snuff that was housed in the amber colored jars.
The Amber Colored Beauties
These amber jars had an allure all their own for me - they still do. I recently bought a few of them at an antique store to use them around the house to hold fresh flowers. I feel sure he probably would not approve of the money I spent on an empty snuff jar just to hold some flowers, but, at least they do double duty as photo props too.
I hope you will come back next Wednesday when I share another story from this series of images. If you are enjoying these behind-the-scene stories, please consider becoming one of the “Insiders”.
