JUST GETTING STARTED - Starting a New Adventure in the “Last Best Place”
In this series of blog posts, I wanted to share some stories of my metamorphosis as a “child of the south” to a Montanan. I’ve relocated from central Texas to eastern Montana. That’s right. A multi-state move.
If you want to know more, keep reading.
We’re Here… What Next
In the first week of our relocation to Miles City, Montana, we stayed in a hotel room. After that week, we moved to some temporary housing that I decorated with a few boxes, a mismatched “sofa” made from our camping air mattresses, and a couple of folding tables and chairs. I assure you, it would make the talented Restoration Hardware designers gasp in horror, but it is only temporary, or that’s what I keep telling myself. However, there are two things that are SO worth the lack of organization and comforts of home.
First, my new neighbor. She was not happy the first time I stepped out of the car. I told her that I knew something she didn’t know, and that was: we are going to be friends. Her continued bark told me she had not received the message, or, if she had received the message, she was going to make me work for our friendship.
After I received approval from her human, I bought a box of dog treats that I leave on the sidewalk for her to find. Lately, she has even ventured up to, oh so gently, remove them from my outstretched hand. It’s progress, and I’ll take it because it makes my heart happy and she gets a treat. Win-win.
The second thing is the view from the dining room window. I’ve got a front-row seat to watch pheasants, deer, rabbits, hawks… And, if that isn’t enough there is that sky. Oh my goodness! The SKY!!
OUT AND ABOUT
We have also found a weekly Farmers’ Market where we get the best produce. One week there was even a car show with a bevy of beautiful cars to enjoy on a cool Saturday morning. I think you all know that I practically “channel” a 16-year-old boy when it comes to cars. Love. Love. Love.
And, look! Even the park statues mask-up and practice social distancing here.
Come back next week and I’ll show you around a little more.
