JULY 2018 - JUST THIS MOMENT
“Just This Moment” is intended to be a collection of those small moments in which you are truly present in your life - at just that moment. The images may not be frame-worthy, but are moments that fill you with joy, allow you to experience a moment of gratitude, make you smile, touch your heart, and/or make your soul sing. I encourage you to share your “moment” here with me, but I will get us started with this…
PEACHES
I look forward to peaches each summer. Not only are they a delicious summer fruit, but they bring back those halcyon days of my childhood when I would spend a week with my grandparents in the summers. One of the recollections from those times is my grandfather coming home after a long day working, but his day was not over until he watered his small orchard of peach trees. The aroma of wet earth and the heat of the day would melt away when he would pick a peach for us to sample. There is nothing like the smell or taste of a peach, still warm from the sun, spilling its sweet nectar down your hands and arms after you have taken a bite.
I have missed the guilty pleasure of enjoying a peach in all it’s messy deliciousness. For the past few years, we have not had great peach seasons here in Texas. However, in May, we stopped at a farmers market and bought some peaches from one of the vendors. She said this was going to be a good year for peaches. She promised that they would get better and better as the season when on. Boy, was she right.
I may not have plucked this year's peaches from the tree myself. The juices may not still be warm from a day in the summer sun, but they still hold the sweetness of taste, fragrance, and memory.
